Muller Thurgau, also known in Europe as Rivaner, is a cross between the noble Riesling grape and the lesser known Madeline Royale.There were few commercial Muller Thurgau sold until the mid 20th century and it has rapidly increased in popularity. It is now grown in Germany, Italy, Eastern Europe, and the United States. It is the second most planted wine grape in Germany.
